FirstLink believes very strongly in volunteerism and our mission is to connect volunteers with opportunities to serve. We wanted to be able to recognize the volunteers in our community by doing something for them. In order to do this, we partnered with the FM RedHawks six years ago to offer a fun night of baseball for our community volunteers. The RedHawks offered us a great partnership and opportunity to bring volunteers together.
Every May, the RedHawks specify one game as Volunteer Appreciation Night. Discounted tickets are offered for volunteers at the price of $5, $4, and $3 dollars depending on where the seats are located. It is a great event for nonprofits to utilize to recognize their volunteers. Many local organizations will purchase tickets for their volunteers and use it as a night to recognize and let them know that they are appreciated as well.
FirstLink’s favorite part of the event, besides the baseball of course, is the ice cream social. At 6pm, before the game, all volunteers are invited to the picnic area for free ice cream and a nonprofit fair. Many nonprofits attend and are able to talk with volunteers about their services and volunteer needs.
FirstLink is all about connecting people to resources and the nonprofit fair and ice cream social bring nonprofits and volunteers together. Volunteers can explore new volunteer opportunities that they may not have known about before. It’s a fun atmosphere to network in and enjoy the sunshine at the same time.
FirstLink also has some great sponsors that provide funds for the ice cream, the event overall, and some great door prizes that volunteers can sign up to win! This year’s event sponsor was Bremer Bank and Scheels sponsored the ice cream. There were many other door prize and event sponsors including Dakota Medical Foundation, Thunder Road, Erbert and Gerberts and 4 Luv of Dog Rescue! We are so grateful to our sponsors. We couldn’t do it without them!
We love doing this event and enjoy getting to talk to nonprofits and volunteers. We hope to see you there next year!
Did we mention that there is free ice cream?
