As we celebrate 2-1-1 Day on February 11, it’s a good time to recognize our communities’ support of each other. People find help and hope by dialing 2-1-1 to reach FirstLink.
2-1-1 was launched by United Way over 20 years ago as a free, confidential, user-friendly phone number used to connect people to essential community resources. Today, 2-1-1 serves more than 93% of our population. People called 2-1-1 about job training, employment, food pantries, help for an aging parent, addiction prevention programs, affordable housing options, support groups, and volunteer opportunities.
But 2-1-1 does more than just connect people with help. It also serves as an unofficial “pulse” on our communities. Many communities analyze 2-1-1 data as a social indicator of local needs and economic stability.
You can take one small action to support 2-1-1, the number to call for help and hope. Share this number with someone in need.
